AMERICAN HOT – DISCO EXOTICA – EUROPA – MIDNIGHT SHIFT
RELEASED APR 30TH
‘Disco will never be over. It will always live in our hearts and minds.
Something like this, that was this big and this important, and this great,
will never die” Whit Stllman – writer/director of THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO
Disco Discharge is Harmless’ most successful series to date, no mean feat for a recently launched compilation, considering that the label has been running for 16 years, and record sales have been on the decrease.
The new installment couldn’t have come at a better time as history repeats itself – when the going gets tough, disco gets going!
After taking a year’s break with further delays due to the loss of a considerable amount of Disco Discharge stock at the warehouse that burned down in North London during the London Riots, Mr Pinks has delivered another 8 discs worth of quality. He says, ‘Great care was taken in choosing the tracks and I am confident that the new albums match anything on the previous ones. Disco Discharge has never been just about showcasing rarities. Each album contains a mixture of hits, underground club tracks and choice rarities. I aim to make each disc as entertaining as possible and by peppering them with a mix of the above, it keeps the listeners interested. It’s all about having fun. It’s very personal to me and the albums are what I would like to hear if I was out in a club’
Since the series launched the four themes have worked extremely well covering US disco, disco fusion, european and italo-disco, and gay / hi nrg. This time they are represented as American Hot, Disco Exotica, Europa and Midnight Shift.
Some of the highlights include – Italo disco classic ‘Soft Emotion’ by Azoto (coming from the same composer behind Tantra and Passengers), much sought after Kid Creole penned and produced ‘A Night In New York’ by Elbow Bones and The Racketeers, Patrick Cowley featuring Sylvester rarity, ‘I Need Somebody To Love Tonight’, Mr Pinks’ glam rock / disco favourite ‘Lay Your Love On The Line’ by Pussyfoot and two Tom Moulton mixes in the form of Salsoul classic ‘Love For The Sake Of Love’ by Claudja Barry and porn star come disco starlet, Andrea True Connection’s aptly named, ‘Fill Me Up ‘ (Heart To Heart).
Disco Discharge has been the series that catapulted disco back into the public consciousness with genuine fan support and anticipation for each new series. Staple disco nights such as Horse Meat Disco are still going strong with their 5 year running NYC Downlow, a prominent feature at festivals such as Glastonbury, Lovebox and The Big Chill.
The team behind Disco Discharge are launching a new sister label, Disco Recharge this spring as a platform to re-issue seminal disco albums with added unreleased material. The first in line are special editions of the first two Change albums ‘The Glow Of Love’ & ‘Miracles’ which will be a double disc set featuring bonus tracks. The second release will be a very special two disc edition of the first Voyage album ‘Voyage’ which in addition to the classic original album, will feature a complete unreleased instrumental album along with other very rare bonus tracks. Each album will feature extensive liner notes from Alan Jones. More rights have been secured for future releases and these will be announced in the near future.
