Over the last few years, Shout! Factory has made a real bid to become one of the top cult DVD companies. Their Roger Corman releases have played a big role in raising their profile amongst exploitation film fans and they will soon extend their Corman-related reach to his work with 20th Century Fox via a DVD release of Capone. IN STORES MARCH 29 Shout! Factory will release Capone, the legendary cult biopic of the world’s most infamous gangster, Al Capone, on DVD March 29. This will mark the first time that the long-sought-after 1975 film has ever been released on DVD in the United States . Ben Gazzara (Road House, The Big Lebowski) is Al Capone, immersed in the bustling bootlegging underbelly of the 1920s. He’s surrounded by a gritty ensemble cast featuring Sylvester Stallone (Rocky) as archcriminal Frank Nitti, John Cassavetes (Rosemary’s Baby) as New York gang lord Frankie Yale, Susan Blakely as Capone’s flapper love interest Iris Crawford and Harry Guardino (Dirty Harry) as Chicago crime boss Johnny Torrio.Produced by Roger Corman, this feverishly paced and stylistic crime drama in the spirit of The Godfather and a precursor to Goodfellas holds no punches when it comes to portraying the violence and brutality that came with the territory and the times.
