Some welcome news for all the disco devotees: Harmless Records has officially announced the details for the next set of Disco Discharge releases. Schlockmania is a big booster of this series and this quartet of new double-disc releases all look like winners. As with previous installments, each set will be a double-disc collection of vintage disco remastered from the original tapes and presented in their album-length or 12-inch versions. Also remarkable, is how current disco still sounds and with DJs embracing a cross-genre of styles in their sets, quality disco tracks stand out like diamond-studded gems.Disco has surpassed the notion of being just another trend as it is now a fixed stable in most dance music festivities. It has well and truly had its revenge! Horse Meat Disco’s NYC Downlow is one of the most successful festival stage concepts packing in the crowds at Glastonbury, Bestival and Lovebox. Even the Chic Organization reformed with Nile Rodgers having the crowds at Bestival in synchronised dancing to Rodgers-penned classics such as Sheila B Devotion’s ‘Spacer’.As always the process of putting together the new series has been a total labour of love.The latest four double CDs are divided in four distinct categories – Disco Fever USA, Mondo Disco, Euro Beats and Cruising The Beats with sleeve notes provided by Alan Jones (co-author of best selling book ‘Saturday Night Forever: The Story of Disco).The music time-line spans the 1970s right through to the mid 1980s balancing a perfect blend of well-known classics with more obscure gems, all in their full 12’ glory or long album versions sourced from the best quality master tapes some of which having to be baked in order to achieve the optimum sound quality. A host of tracks make their appearance on CD for the first time such as Patrick Juvet’s ‘Got A Feeling’, Voyage’s ‘Souverins’ Instrumental, Who’s Who ‘Hynodance’ (produced by Thomas Bangalter’s dad!) and Noel’s ‘Dancing Is Dangerous’ alongside a welter of hard-to-find rarities and ultra collectible gems. Some of the notable rarities include Disco Discharge exclusive and previously unreleased track by Adrian Baker, ‘Don’t Take The Night Away’, Gepy & Gepy’s Italian Disco rarity ‘Body To Body’, Dennis Parker’s cult classic ‘Fly Like An Eagle’, the rare Tom Moulton Mix of Claudja Barry’s ‘Why Must A Girl Like Me’, Raquel Welch’s Hi NRG classic ‘This Girl’s Back In Town’, Technique’s ‘(Looking For Someone To Love) Tonight’ and Jonny Mathis’ ‘Begin The Beguin’.
